HP Logical Storage Manager (LSM) Administration

This course is designed for system management and support people who have experience managing a Tru64 UNIX environment and require instruction in advanced system management topics associated with configuring and maintaining the Logical Storage Manager (LSM).
Systems administrators and support personnel.
The students taking this course should have the following skills.
- Install and manage a Tru64 UNIX system
- Install layered products and register license PAKs
- Troubleshoot the operating system and make adjustments to improve performance
- Manage traditional UNIX disk partitioning
- Perform typical UNIX system management tasks, such as backup and adding user accounts
- Use the Tru64 UNIX kernel configuration tools

- Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
- Determine hardware and software needs for LSM
- Configure the hardware necessary to support hardware RAID
- Install the software necessary to support LSM
- Explain the LSM concepts of diskgroup, disks, subdisks, plexes, volumes, concatenation, striping, and mirroring.
- Set up and initialize LSM from the command line.
- Manage LSM using the command line interface.
- Mirror the root, swap, and /usr partitions with LSM.
- Create and mirror volumes, then back up a volume using the volassist command.
- Set up and initialize LSM using the volsetup utility.
- Describe the benefits of, set up, and use block-change logging.
- Describe the benefits of, set up, and use dirty-region logging.
- Describe and use hotsparing.
- Manage an LSM configuration using the LSM Storage Administrator (lsmsa), and the Visual Administrator.
